Located in New York City's flower district, this unpretentious little flower shop has gained quite a following thanks to its dedication to providing the freshest, most colorful, and texturally diverse range flowers available. The clean, fresh tailored style has placed Spruce at the top of the list of New York City flower shops, and the unmatched attention to detail sets Spruce apart as one of the best floristries in New York City.

Gaige Clark, owner of Spruce, first opened her floristry 11 years ago in Greenwich Village. Five years later, she relocated to a storefront occupied by the Village Florist for the previous 65 years. As a keepsake, the original florist sign on the outside of the building remains to be admired. As a self taught florist, Clark served as an apprentice to August Postilli, a florist in Maine. Growing up outside of New York, she had craved the excitement of living and working in New York City. Clark was also a writer, and found the perfect outlet for her artistic vision in designing the brilliant arrangements at Spruce.

Clark's “New England Garden” style has brought her much success, and the approach is about creating the notion that flowers grow naturally from their pots. Hence, when the flowers fade, they may remain in the pot as a dried arrangement. Her dynamic yet succinct style has won over many clients ranging from the local neighborhood residents to reputable companies and celebrities. Among Spruce’s clientele have been various companies from all over the business spectrum, such as Vogue, the New Yorker, the New York Times, MTV, VH1, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, among others.

Some of the arrangements in the studio include the colorful Manhattan Window Box, the Giant Nantucket designed with seasonal blossoms, and the magnificently sleek Glass Calla Lilies Tower. Two of the more popular choices are the Spruce Crate, comprised of seasonal flowers, and Spruce’s distinctive Rose Crate. The wooden pine crates used in both of these designs are handmade on the premises. In addition to the wide variety available at Spruce, they also offer beautiful ready-made bouquets perched outside of the boutique. The bouquets are made daily and tastefully wrapped - the perfect option for someone on the run or in need of a lovely hostess gift.

In addition to flowers, Spruce also produces and exclusively sells an assortment of soap bars. Handmade in Bearsville, New York, each bar is created using all natural ingredients and essential oils. There are six fragrances to choose from: Lavender Blackberry, Moka Java, Lemon Verbena with Frankincense, Pumpkin, Anise and Raspberry Eucalyptus.

Though the most popular days for Spruce are St. Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, an elegant floral arrangement is the perfect gift for any occasion, so be sure to reserve a beautiful arrangement for whatever special days are ahead. The wonderful customer service and local deliveries will help to fulfill any and all floral needs.
