Facing the south side of Madison Square Park, just beyond a newsstand, is an unassuming deli. But. This one seems different. You step inside. A sparkling clean interior. A refrigerator case home to nut milks, agave lemonade, coconut chai. A menu listing nut and seed pates--and unheated avocado horopito oil?
You've arrived at Bonobos, the casual raw vegan restaurant that serves up food inspired by the raw, wild, plant-based diet of our closest ancestors. Before you ditch the greens and head for the Shake Shack, venture a bite. Every dish tastes full of love, and is full of live enzymes and minerals that will make your body sing.
With a wide and delicious selection of dressings, every salad (created to order) is divine. If you're in the mood for heavier fare, try their nori rolls, warm soups (the coconut bell pepper soup is one of our faves), or lasagna. Still hungry? Great. The mesquite ball dessert is not to be missed, and at Bonobo's prices, are quite affordable.
Seating is available, though on a warm day, taking out any of their delicious items across the street to the park and soaking in the sun seems the only thing a true Bonobo would do. Bring your own container and save the forests for our friends.
The restaurant occasionally offers back-room lectures and provides literature on information about heath and community. Credit/Debit cards are welcome for purchases $10 and over.
