The history is on the wall at Café’tal Social Club, the only remaining social club in Little Italy today. When it first opened in the 1940’s, the café attracted returning G.I.s from World War II, and here they played cards, socialized and drank fine Italian coffee. The black and white portraits hanging on the wall are a reminder of the rich history the café has to offer, and the friendly staff is happy to serve you fresh meats, panini, pizza, gelato and pastries with ingredients sourced from local markets.

Café’tal Social Club is a place where quality food meets traditional and local values.  The space of this quaint café originally served as a social club in the 1940’s, providing an arena for men returning home from World War II to convene and enjoy their free time.  These men and their espresso, card games, and conversation still live on in the spirit of the shop, with their pictures lining the walls, and their names filling the menu.

Menu items such as the “Fat Carmine” Panini or the “Frankie D” Salad are made with deli meats from Di Palo’s, a traditional Italian meat shop that directly imports from Italy.  New to the menu is the delicious individual pizzas, made with Foccacia bread. Café’tal also imports special coffee beans from Omni, an Italian based company. Beans are freshly ground at the shop, used in their house blends, espresso, and specialty drinks, all offered with organic milk.  The café is also known for serving Ciao Bella gelato, which has become a New York staple over the years.  City-goers can take a break from their hectic schedules in this warm café, and enjoy a fully Italian experience.
