Paige Mayfield, vegan and raw foodist, has condensed the good things in life down to their utmost savory essences at Simple Juice Bar, a store newly opened in NoLIta this past July of 2009. Delicious organic juices, rich smoothies, and tasty treats are all freshly made on the premises from early morning till the evening. Drink options include libido shakes, smoothies, dark leafy green drinks, and coconut juice blended with fresh coconut meat. In addition to the available options, Mayfield can also whip up an original smoothie tailored to your needs and tastes, using any of the superfoods behind the counter.
Mayfield also employs her unique recipes in preparing her delectable one-of-a-kind dried snacks: dehydrated sweet pineapple, raw granola, dehydrated Thai coconut, and raw fudge made from organic dates and cacao powder. One particular mouth-watering creation is her dehydrated sprouted almonds rolled in Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, a combination that contains a number of good minerals for the body.
Besides drinks, Simple Juice Bar sells a variety of exotic superfoods and products that aren’t mainstream but contain health benefits that Mayfield swears by: organic maca root by Sunfood, which contains over 50 phytonutrients; organic cacao powder, a mood-lifter and an antioxidant richer in bioflavonoids than green tea, red wine, or blueberries; delicious low-sugar Brazilian Acai berries; energy-boosting, vitamin-rich Camu Camu-berries from the Amazon rainforests of Peru; and Soignee Body Products which consist of plant-derived, chemical-free botanicals.
Another specialty at Simple Juice Bar is its freshly juiced wheatgrass. Grassneck Wheatgrass, a local supplier, grew fifty different varieties until it decided on the one sweetest to the taste. From the beginning, the wheatgrass is nurtured by good vibes — each seed is meditated on while sown and continues to be pampered by soothing classical music in the greenhouse until ready for harvest.
“Raw food can be intimidating and not for everyone,” Mayfield says. To remedy this, her store demystifies the secrets of natural, organic ingredients by bringing healthy and tasty options to a wider audience. At Simple Juice Bar, you can happily indulge in delicious treats and drinks without any of the guilt and all the benefits.
Keep an eye out for the opening of Ishta, a private yoga studio soon to be located below Simple Juice Bar. Ishta Yoga Studio will be providing an intimate setting and personalized yoga sessions for small individual groups.
