This well-lit, restful sanctuary is filled with furniture, tableware, bed, bath, and home accessories required for the up-and-coming generation of environmentally conscious, style-conscious consumers.
Greenhouse is the boutique of Wilsey Wolf and Toni Nicolo, New York natives striving to bring the most sustainable (read: organic, renewable, recycled, local, non-toxic) options to Brooklyn, in the form of eco-luxury.
Start with ottomans, chairs and sofas by White Oak Furniture, an upstate New York company producing custom home furnishings using FSC (http://www.fsc.org) Certified White Oak. Each piece is custom, made to order, designed with different configurations to fit your living space.
Natural Lee sofas utilizes woods milled from FSC- and American Forests-approved areas. Cushions start with soy-based foam cores lined with plastic from recycled plastic bottles, generously filled with fluffy goose down, and covered with fine Belgian linen. The linen is produced under such strict European environmental guidelines that water leaving the factory after the production and dying process is crystal clear and potable.
Cisco Brothers' Inside Green line, California-based and offering top of the line furnishings with Alder wood frames, reclaimed legs, non-toxic finishes, and organic upholstery, can also be found.
Not in need of furniture? Dress your bed in fine classic white percale bedding made from 100% organic cotton by Area and 100% handmade linen collection by Matteo, and shop a variety of linen sheets with special touches like buttons and satin trims. Outfit with blankets and throws made from the same Belgian linen mentioned above.
Pamper yourself with aromatic soy-based and beeswax candles by Paddy Wax, scented with complex essential oil blends-and feel good, knowing each candle purchase plants a tree through The American Forests' Global ReLeaf Program (http://www.americanforests.org/global_releaf). Feed your skin with the fine USDA certified organic bath & body skincare line by Erbaviva, in fresh scents like Lavender rose & neroli; lemongrass & rose; eucalyptus; cedar & spruce; jasmine-orange, and grapefruit.
You need only tour the store to discover more: Belgian linen napkins and table cloths, lead-free, non-toxic, handmade dinnerware by Mud, chic recycled drinking glasses and frosted vases, 100% organic cotton towels, super soft baby alpaca throws, baskets and serving trays made from sustainable sea grass, water hyacinth, and Acadia.
The options are endless. Eco-luxurious. And right in our backyard.
