“If old movie stars wore tie die this would be it”. – Margaret Schwarz

With its whimsical décor and vibrant display of vintage inspired dresses, the MoMo FaLana boutique is reminiscent of bold and colorful nineteenth century Gustav Klimt paintings. Owners Maureen Roberts and Michael Lublin are the visionaries behind these one-of-a-kind designs that combine real vintage and retro glam elegance. Backgrounds in retooling and remaking vintage have carried them to become forerunners in fashion as they take the secret art of hand dying delicate dresses and create a unique line of gowns. These pieces are specifically catered to a fashion sense that is attuned to personal style and artistic commitment. Alluring color combinations harmonized with unusual MoMoed patterns appeal to the sophisticated world travelers, those that are nomads at heart, and destination brides who dare to be non-traditional.

MoMo FaLana dresses can be sexy pieces that are short and sweet, or seductive long gowns. Recognizing the many different body types of women, the boutique offers custom fitting in addition to the choices off-the- rack so that every shopper can experience the perfect flattering fit. Rosa, MoMo's seamstress, who boasts names like Oscar De La Renta and Betsey Johnson on her resume, carefully constructs the pieces from fabrics like soft silk chemise and chiffons, or a special textured silk that the boutique has exclusively woven to their specifications. Rouched waist lines, pleated straps, and drapes are added touches for a feminine look, and for a signature style some dresses wear Village Star Sleeves that can be either short or long. The color technique of MoMo's hand dying has an outcome that is versatile enough for designs ranging from slips to luxury vintage bridal wear.

IT’S ALL HISTORY - THEIR ROCK N’ ROLL ROOTS TAKE US BACK
It all began when owners Maureen Roberts and Michael Lublin purchased a trousseau that they decided to hand dye in their kitchen sink. While some may have considered the original trousseau to be too beautiful to alter, Maureen and Michael envisioned a one-of-a-kind slip that has now proved to be an item that is always in demand. These vintage slips earned the two a spot in Chelsea’s 26th Street Antique Market in 1995. They were the first in fashion and design to be accepted in a difficult market to get into. They sold apparel and fashion there for the next year until opening their very own boutique. Their first fashion show took place in their East Village boutique. A Led Zeppelin backdrop paired with theatrical lighting effects set the stage for this debut, and the designs were worn by models that were unknown at the time but grace the runways of today. With no limits in sight and endless creative license, Maureen and Michael designed, fabricated and presented the collection in two weeks.

MoMo FaLana has come a long way since breaking the fashion barrier with their MoMoed collection of luxury vintage slip dresses. Since then, they have produced ten additional fashion shows and have sold exclusive collections to Ralph Lauren in East Hampton, Barney's Beverly Hills, Koh Samiu in London, Henri Bendel, Donna Karan, and have also made reached other parts of the world- Joyce in Hong Kong, Hiragiku, and shops in Italy, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Austria, Panama. Not only has it become well-versed in the global fashion scene, MoMo FaLana has collaborated with top fashion designers, graced the top fashion magazines, and dressed popular celebrities. Today they continue to create timeless vogue gowns while preserving the vision that inspired them from day one. Peace and love.
