Alpana Bawa doesn’t believe in black. Her love of color is beautifully evident in her NoLIta boutique, from the red vinyl floor to the infinite color palette that defines her clothing and accessories. Alpana Bawa’s upbringing in India is apparent in her brilliant designs as well, as the mix of textures and patterns suggest. An embroidered circle and dot motif can be found throughout much of her work, and she likes working with all natural fibers such as silk, cotton and wool. In addition to apparel for men and women, Bawa has a home collection and an accessories line. Unique to the designer is her openness to custom design, as she works on one piece at a time, and can create something fresh in a different color than what you’ll find in store.
