You may have heard about a magical time when a place called Chocolate Bar served up homemade lemon fizzy's and egg creams the old fashion way, with a hand-held seltzer bottle and CO2 cartridge. Well they are back. New York's favorite Chocolate Bar has just re-opened in the West Village right down the street from their first location. View the video. Chocolate Bar is known for its warm neighborhood village vibe and fusion of fun treats and New York art courtesy of the vision of the proprietor, Alison Neilson. Alison wanted to provide a place where New Yorkers could have fun chocolate in a setting that screamed New York art. Chocolate Bar is a collaboration of artistic interests that range from chocolate treats to wrappers designed by local artists.
Chocolate bar is complete with a full espresso bar; refreshing ice chocolate drinks; delicious desserts that include pies to brownies and more. Desserts are baked by Allison’s talented Sister and pastry chef of Long Island Beach, Meg. Gimme Coffee, of Ithaca, NY, known for its flavorful fair trade coffees is brewed daily in the cafe along with Serendipity’s organic sustainable chai tea from LIC. Serendipity coffee is now available for sale and packaged in beautifully wrapped tins. Avant-garde chocolate bars are hand-poured in unusual flavors and wrapped in a work of art courtesy of local artists. Chocolate recipes are a collaborated effort between internationally acclaimed Executive Chef, Gustaf Mabrouk and Alison Neilson.
In addition, don’t forget to check out the themed chocolate bars where the wrapper of each bar is designed by an artist. The Choco + Minty Artist Bar was made in collaboration with New York’s Yoyo Mart, designer wrapping created by David Horvath, creator of Uglydolls, Choco + Minty bar inspired the creation of Choco and Minty Uglydolls. Other bars include: Graffiti Bars, a creation of New York City graffiti artists; The Bitter Sweet Bar, designed by Iz the Wiz, a milk chocolate bar filled with banana cream ganache, by Lady Pink; and Dark Chocolate and Strawberry, a dark chocolate bar filled with strawberry jam by Dr. Revolt. If you are unable to make up your mind with so many flavors to chose from pick up a themed boxed set of chocolaty Stencil Kit bars (includes a real stencil designed by artist, Ed Roth), Artist Bars, Retro Bars and Graffiti Bars, each filled with 10 bars per theme. Eat the chocolate and show off the wrappers. Flavors are based on availability.
Whether your motivation is chocolate or art, Chocolate Bar is an experience in and of itself. You don’t have to spend a ton of money, just show up and you’ll find yourself enjoying a fun and unique environment rich in the arts.
