This interior urban earth sculpture by American sculptor and composer, Walter De Maria, is the last of its kind and has been on view as a long-term installation in SoHo since 1980. The New York Earth Room is a white studio space filled with knee-deep, moist soil and weighs 280,000 lbs. To catch a rare glimpse of nature indoors, you can view the New York Earth Room for free at its Wooster Street location. The permanent installation is maintained by Dia Art Foundation.
