Thousands of New Yorkers came to Coney Island to see Mermaids flaunt their fins at the Mermaid Parade last Saturday. The 2012 Mermaid Parade brought on lots of sequins, pasties, and blues and greens.

The Mermaid Parade always promises extravagant and sometimes notorious costumes. There were angel mermaids and devil mermaids. There were avatar looking mermaids covered in body paint and scales. Kids got into the party too, dressing in sea creatures paying homage to Disney favorites like The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo.

My favorite costume had to be the jellyfish. It was a simple clear umbrella with streamers but I found it clever and resourceful.
